Volume 1

Sale price£17.00

My golf started at Hoylake, so it is only right this series should start there too. As well as other big names (Wallasey, Royal Birkdale, Formby, Hillside), I look at Formby Ladies, Hesketh and West Lancs.

With memories from living in a van, musings on what links golf actually is, and essays, photographs and beautiful illustrations (by Will Eagar) on these wonderful links courses, Volume 1 is my ode to the links courses of my home.

The Masterwork Begins

Immediately reflects the fabulous and all-encompassing nature of Sam's pilgrimage, and promises to build into an extraordinary collection. Wondeful photographs and illustrations accompanied by fine writing that is both informative and illuminating. By the time the full series is complete this will be the masterwork of British Links Golf.

Brilliant series!

Really enjoyed Vol 1 and looking forward to the rest of the series. Everything about the book is excellent. The layout, the text, the photos and the drawings. This first volume are courses largely that I have played and know pretty well so I am looking forward to the subsequent volumes to reveal lesser know courses. The ideas for where to stay etc are also a good idea. Recommended for anyone who appreciates the history of the game and particularly links golf.

View from a chair

So having finished volume 1 here is my review the photos are really good , in my opinion there is nothing added to the book ( well magazine really ) by putting in the watercolour sketches. At £17.95 it is too expensive when it can be read from cover to cover in 40 mins if you bought all 18 issues you are looking at £306. I got this as I live close by ( Fylde coast ) and have played a fair few of the venues but there was very little insight into things I didn’t already know but in fairness i do read a lot of golf books. On the whole it isn’t a bad table top read but falls short of my expectations.
