From Traigh, it is only a short drive to the ferry at Mallaig - then a ferry over to Skye.

Skye is yet another spectacular island, and the course is sandwiched between towering mountains and the Sound of Raasay. 9 holes for just £18 in an honesty box...

Originally 'Sconser GC', the 9 holes were laid out by former Walker Cup player Dr Frank Deighton in the 1960s, before becoming Isle of Skye GC in '87. Mineral mining behind the 2nd green (below) threatened to erode the coastline, but fortunately that risk has long since past.

The ground is a little soft underfoot, and it can't be described as a true links. However, it really is beautifully presented. Skye is renowned for receiving more than its fair share of rain, and the presentation in spite of this was very impressive.

The greens are small and often slightly elevated, making it a test of intricacy rather than power.

If you're planning on a visit when the world is a little more normal, do yourself a favour and bring your clubs.

And your camera.

I did take my golf clubs to Skye for my honeymoon in 1992. What a beautiful place and loved the course and vistas. The honesty box was £5 back then, and no sadly the marriage didn’t last!!!!

Went to Skye on our honeymoon eight years ago. Wish I’d known about this place (though not sure I’d still be married if I had). This website is really superb. Congrats!

On Google Maps, Traigh is marked simply as 'Golf Course'. What an enticing start...I found it to be everything I love about golf on the West Coast of Scotland.

I was in two minds whether to play Ullapool or not. It was a pretty miserable morning, and I knew it wasn't going to be a true links course. I thought I'd give it a go.
