Uʟʟᴀᴘᴏᴏʟ GC

I was in two minds whether to play Ullapool or not. It was a pretty miserable morning, and I knew it wasn't going to be a true links course. I thought I'd give it a go.

Squelching along the treelined first fairway, my decision was vindicated on the second tee. Ahead lay a long par 3 with a breathtaking backdrop. This was more like it!

The next few continued in this vain. Definitely not links golf, but interesting golf making full use of the waterfront. The course is on Loch Broom - and there were no shortage of fishing boats and ferries providing additional interest to that beautiful outlook.

After a sweep along the lower holes, you work your way back up the hill. The last couple offer little more than a route back to the clubhouse - but it was worth playing for those holes by the loch alone.

I can imagine on a mid-summer's eve it would be a truly spectacular round. I was very glad I braved the gloom.
